Why I’m Flying
I’m on my way home to San Francisco after a weekend of eating and drinking in New York. Eating is sort of a hobby of mine.

Best Places to Chow Down?
Oregon, Washington state, France, Copenhagen, London, Munich, and you can never go wrong in Italy. I just love pasta carbonara.

What I Pack

I travel with as little as possible so that I return with as much as I can carry.

Why we’re traveling Tracy: “We’re on our way home to New Zealand a er a trip to Pi sburgh to visit a pen friend I’ve had since I was 10. It was very emotional.”

What we did Laura: “I visited a high school and went to a bonfire and basketball games.”

Why we did it Tracy: “I would recommend that all parents travel with their children before they leave high school. You never get that chance again. It’s something special.”

WHY I’M TRAVELING / I’m on my way from my home in Puebla, Mexico, to vacation in New York City. I’m planning to spend a lot of time eating, especially at Le Cirque.

MY FAVORITE PLACES / I love traveling to the beach. The Netherlands and Germany are also amazing.

WHEN I TRAVEL / I like to learn about different types of food. One day I hope to open a Mexican restaurant of my own.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

WHY I’M TRAVELING / I’m on my way to a friend’s wedding in Mexico City. This is going to be my first time there, and that’s really why I decided to go.

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO / The spas. I can’t wait to get some massages. I’m always trying to find one as good as the massage I had at the Taj Majal Palace in Mumbai.

MY FAVORITE PLACES / I love to go home to Korea and places like Amsterdam and London. But Paris is my favorite. The first time I was in Paris, I knew immediately I had to go back.

Getting to know you

WHY I’M TRAVELING I’m on my way to an advisory board meeting for a nonprofit. Usually when I’m traveling, I go to Europe because that’s where I’m from.

WITH THE FAMILY We travel about once a year as a family. We went to Italy last year and the U.K. the year before that. Our favorite thing is to spend time together eating.

CAN’T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT A good book—I’m actually on my way to a bookstore right now—and at least one iPod, sometimes two.

WHY I’M TRAVELING I’m going home to San Francisco. I was on vacation in New York with my mom.

WHAT I DID We went to the Statue of Liberty and Central Park. My favorite thing was The Lion King musical. I really liked the monkey.

WHERE TO NEXT? Hawaii. Oh, and I want to see Greece and the temples and the other god and goddess stuff.

WHY I’M TRAVELING I’m flying to San Francisco for a family reunion. I travel all the time to see my family in North Carolina, Florida, California and Kentucky.

MY FAVORITE PLACE Is Yosemite National Park.
I love going on eighteen- hour hikes there with my photo equipment.

HOW I FLY I love to read. I’ve got two books for this trip: Death Masks and The Wizard Heir. I finished one on the way here.

WHY I’M TRAVELING I just got off the Queen Mary II, and I’m heading home to Hawaii.

HOW WAS THE TRIP? So relaxing! I picked up the ship in Australia, went on to South Africa, Rio, Barbados and many other places. I spent thirty-nine days onboard, and it was fantastic.

HOW I FLY On the long trip home, I always take a crossword and a good book.

WHY I’M TRAVELING I’m going to San Diego to run my fifth marathon. I’m really looking forward to this one because it’s rock ‘n’ roll– themed, with bands and cheerleaders on the course.

NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT… My day planner. Sure, I could type it up, but I like having everything in front of me. I guess I’m old-school.

JOB PERKS I’ve been part of a story line at Total Nonstop Action Wrestling where I was beat up by Randy Savage. And Lex Luger put me on the torture rack once.

WHY I’M TRAVELING I’m flying back to Cairo, where I work as a health and safety manager at an energy company. I spend half of my time there and the other half at home in Trinidad and Tobago.

I’D RATHER BE FLYING… With my family, going on vacation. When we travel we like to go to big cities to see the sights and hit all the good restaurants. New York is our favorite.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT CAIRO? The fruit. Egypt is loaded with amazing fruit. The mangoes and the oranges are the best.

WHY I’M TRAVELING My dad and I are going to Liberia to visit our family. They don’t know that we’re coming, so I’m pretty excited to surprise them.

TRAVELING WITH DAD I’m looking forward to it. It’s a really long trip, which means we’ll have tons of bonding time. We bump heads a lot; it will be good to talk.

HOW I FLY I listen to lots of music and drink tons of water. But the most important thing is listening to gospel music. It calms me down.

WHY I’M TRAVELING I’m off to Philadelphia for a GT road race at the New Jersey Mortorsports Park. I run a niche photo agency that covers motorsports and soccer all around the world. I usually work in other countries because Americans just aren’t interested in those sports.

NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT My GPS. I got lost a couple hundred times before buying one, but now my GPS is my saving grace everywhere I go.

WINDOW OR AISLE? I’m six-foot-eight, so an aisle seat is really important and United’s extra legroom in Economy Plus is great. When you’re as big as I am, it’s miserable to get stuck in a cramped seat.

WHY I’M TRAVELING I’m going home to Washington, D.C. I just finished attending a big furniture conference here in Chicago. I’m trying to figure out what to put in a new building I’m designing.

NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT I always have my Kindle. I held off on getting one, but I gave in a few months ago. Now it’s indispensable. I read a lot when I travel, or I do sudoku.

I’D RATHER BE FLYING… / With my daughter. She’s sixteen and plays soccer, so we travel all over the country for tournaments. It’s fun and I like soccer, but I’m really a baseball fan.

WHY I’M TRAVELING I’m heading home to Newark, New Jersey, for the summer. I have a job lined up as a counselor at a day camp. Working with kids is a lot of fun—way better than a real job.

MY PREFLIGHT RITUAL I take a picture out the window every time I fly. I’ve probably taken about fifty pictures. Every time it’s a little bit different.

NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT My skateboard. Whenever I can, I travel with my skateboard. I’m always scared it’ll break, so I never check it. It takes me a lot of time to get through security.

WHY WE’RE TRAVELING SVEN: We’re going to Charleston, South Carolina, for a home exchange. The people who own the house we’re staying in will be at our place in Holland.

WHY CHARLESTON? TAMARA: It was an accident! I was looking for places close to New York and Florida, and I mistakenly wrote to a family in Charleston. They really wanted to do an exchange, and we decided it would be a good idea.

NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT SVEN: Drawing paper and coloring books to keep the kids occupied. We always hope we’ll have time to read something ourselves, but with the kids that doesn’t always work out.

WHY I’M TRAVELING I’m going home to Princeton, New Jersey, and I’m actually here early. I’m a fanatic for being on time. I can spend hours in the airport. Thanks to technology, it’s really easy to work here. I also like shopping.

NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT My watches, scarves, perfumes, glasses and rings. I’m in love with rings right now. I like the idea of mixing cultures. Rings belong to sort of an ancient culture, and I like mixing that with my more modern, European style.

ABOUT THAT STYLE I don’t work on Wall Street; I sell hand-designed furniture.

If I were trying to sell mutual funds, I’d change my look, but I am what I am.

WHY I’M TRAVELING My company has model railroad clients, so I’m going to L.A. for a trade show. But I’m also into model railroads myself. I’ve probably got about four hundred at home.

I NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT… My laptop. It’s my universal device. I use it for work. I use it for entertainment. I use it as a clock. I put books on it to read. I’ll watch a video in one corner of the screen and work in the other. Sometimes it’s the only thing I take with me on trips.

BUSINESS AND PLEASURE If I’m going someplace for business, I’ll also take a personal day or two. I’m at the stage in my life when I might as well enjoy it. So I’ve stopped flying redeyes, and I always make sure I have time to really enjoy a new city.

WHY I’M TRAVELING I’m going to San Francisco to spend a week hanging out with friends. I wish I could stay longer, but I have a puppy at home.

INFLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT I have a really huge book called House of Leaves that I’m excited to read. Honestly, though, I’ll probably just get through a few chapters and fall asleep.

ABOUT THOSE TATTOOS I have ten. No wait, eleven. I just got a new one. My favorite is the puffer fish on my right foot, even though it hurt the most. He’s just so cute.

WHY I’M TRAVELING I’m going home to Switzerland. I grew up in Chicago and just moved to Europe with my husband a few months ago, so I needed to pick up all of my stuff. My parents don’t actually know that I’m married. They would panic at the idea.

INFLIGHT RITUAL I have to have a cocktail, and when I’m on the plane I need something cozy to wrap up in. My essentials are my sweater, scarf, eye mask and socks. People think I’m trying to be glamorous when I wear this dress, but it’s just like pajamas.

WHAT I’M INTO I’m on the hunt for the perfect salt right now. Everywhere I go, I pick up all kinds of sea salts and rock salts. It’s really the key to a great meal.
