MEET THE LOCALS

CLAUDINA LOPEZ, ARCHITECT

WHAT SHE’S WEARING: Cotton dress and shawl by Dosa; jewelry by Mexican designer Natalia Toledo

ON THE LOCAL STYLE: “Oaxaca is all about inclusion, integration and collaboration. There is a love affair with locality and the poetics of the handmade, in everything from art and architecture to food and fashion.”

WHERE TO SHOP IN OAXACA: “Go to Los Baúles de Juana Cata for exquisite local textiles, and La Bonetera for contemporary fashion with a strong Mexican flavor. And at Tienda Q, where I bought this outfit, I always find unique and tasteful items by artists and designers working locally but thinking globally.”

PERSONAL AESTHETIC: “I tend toward subtle reminders of the cultural richness that Oaxaca is famous for. My jewelry, for instance, is an important part of my wardrobe because most of it was made by fine local artisans that I’m very proud of.”

CAROLINA TORRES, CHEF

“My typical look: casual, with a touch of local handmade textiles, and always a good pair of jeans because I ride a bike.”

Hi, Judith—See if you have any luck with these. The designer is Dosa, and if you go to the contact section of http://dosainc.com, you might find a boutique in the US that can assist you. To contact Tienda Q, try emailing tienda_q@prodigy.net.mx. Best, Jenn
