With style, aplomb and a lot less fuel, the 2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel takes on the red dirt of canyon country
Author David Page
STARTING PRICE: $55,750
ENGINE: 3.0-liter v-6 turbocharged diesel with common-rail fuel injection
PERFORMANCE: The Cayenne Diesel takes 2.8 seconds longer than its gas-powered sibling to get from zero to 60, but with a turbocharger output of 240 hp and maximum torque of 406 lb-ft, it’s plenty responsive beyond the dotted yellow line, and feels downright bored at 75 mph. And it can go nearly 200 miles farther on the same amount of fuel.
PERKS: The adaptive cruise-control system uses a radar sensor in the central air intake to monitor for slower vehicles and obstacles in the lane ahead, so you can put more of your focus into the 14-speaker, 360-degree sound system.
