On the Waterfront

These lakeside lodges will have you pining for the good old days

This cozy country cabin goes deep

The traditional red Swedish cabin gets all wet at Utter (Swedish for “otter”) Inn, a tiny retreat in the middle of Lake Mälaren, outside of Stockholm. Conceived by artist Mikael Genberg, the hotel has only one guest room, with a living area and kitchenette in the little red house above water and a bedroom below the surface — with plenty of windows from which to see aquatic life. Guests use an inflatable boat to get to the cabin and have the option of ordering a deluxe package, which includes meal delivery. www.privateislandsonline.com
